How to Choose a Credit Union Website Platform: 7 Questions to Ask Any Vendor

Choosing a credit union website platform isn’t like buying software you can swap next quarter. You’ll live with this decision for years — through rate changes, audits, redesigns, and member growth. The wrong pick means constant workarounds; the right one quietly makes your small team look big.

Before you sign with any credit union website vendor, get straight answers to these seven questions.

1. Is it built specifically for credit unions?

Generic builders don’t understand rate tables, disclosures, NCUA requirements, or member-conversion flows. A platform built for credit unions comes with the right structure baked in — so you’re not forcing a retail template to behave like a financial institution.

2. How fast can we launch — and what’s the process?

A custom build can take most of a year. A templated, credit-union-ready platform should get you live in weeks. Ask for a realistic timeline and exactly what’s required from your team.

3. Can our team update rates and promos ourselves?

If every rate change means emailing a developer and waiting, your site will always be out of date. Insist on simple, self-service tools for rates, promos, and announcements.

4. Is accessibility (ADA/WCAG) built in?

Ask specifically: is the site WCAG 2.1 AA-ready from the foundation, or are they relying on an overlay widget? The latter won’t protect you. For a credit union, this is non-negotiable.

5. What’s included in ongoing costs?

Get the full picture: hosting, security, backups, software updates, and support. A low monthly price that excludes maintenance isn’t cheaper — it’s just hiding the bill.

6. Who supports us after launch — and how fast?

When something breaks the day before a big campaign, you need a real team that knows credit unions, not a ticket queue. Ask about response times and who you’ll actually talk to.

7. Can you show results with credit unions like ours?

Ask for examples. A vendor who’s done great work for small credit unions can prove it.

How CU Rocket answers all seven

We built CU Rocket to pass this exact checklist: a credit-union-specific platform, live in 4–6 weeks, with self-service rate and promo tools, ADA readiness built in, all-inclusive maintenance, and a support team that’s served credit unions for 20+ years through QNTM.

And on question seven — our very first CU Rocket client, Penn Lanco Federal Credit Union, launched a site that went on to win industry awards. We’re happy to show you the work.
